June 13-14
The Sri Bodhiraja Foundation celebrated the temple's 50th anniversary with a string of events, starting from the release of cattle to a colourful performance of traditional dances. The occasion was graced by the presence of many Singapore friends who had flown in specially to join in the celebrations.
On 13th June, 22 cows donated by our Singapore friends were released to farming families in the Hambantota area. This was followed by the unveiling of the new Bodhi shrine by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in the presence of many local and foreign dignitaries. The new shrine with its gold-plated fencing depicts the seven weeks of the Buddha after his Enlightenment. On 14th June, dana was offered to 500 monks from various parts of  Sri Lanka and cultural performances delighted the villagers of Embilipitiya, followed by an evening of music and dance that thrill the local villagers.

Poson Poya celebrations
Colourful processions and performances were put up by the children of the Bodhiraja Pre-schools to celebrate Poson Poya.  The children danced and sang to the delight of all. Following the Buddhist tradition, they also observed sil and attended puja at the temple to commemorate this special full-moon day.
