Meth Sevana Villages

In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, Sri Lanka was one of the worst affected countries. More than 30000 people perished and many thousands more left homeless. To help relieve the suffering of the many displaced, the Sri Bodhiraja Foundation launched the Meth Sevana Housing Project for Tsunami Victims on January 1, 2005. Thanks to the generous support of many, especially the Taiwan Inter-Religious Fund Raising Committee initiated by Dhamma Master Ven Hsin Tao of Ling Jiou Buddhist Society and the Singapore Red Cross, the Foundation managed to build 600 low cost houses between 2005 and 2008. In addition, the Foundation also built community halls and implemented bursary schemes and other income-generating projects to help the victims rebuild their lives. Through the home-farming programme, many families are now self-sufficient in vegetables and fruits, and even have excess to sell on the markets.
