Environmental Protection

The teachings of the Buddha abound with reverence for nature. Many of the significant events in the Buddha's life took place under the shade of trees; hence trees are highly respected. However, modern man, in his ignorance, have destroyed much of Mother Earth's precious gifts, resulting in today's ecological crisis. Through various measures, the Foundation tries to raise awareness of the many problems afflicting our environment and educate the rural population about the harmful effects of illgela logging, deforestation, pollution and improper disposal of polythene bags etc. Children are encouraged to plant a tree on their birthdays.and saplings are provided free of charge from the temple's nursery. A huge area by the Chandrika River has also been cleaned up and trees replanted to create a pleasant park for the villagers.
