Vocational Training

Supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the  Vocational Centre  provides school leavers in the areas opportunities to master a skill or craft that can enhance their employability in the competitive job market.

Computer Training
To keep up with information technology, the Foundation's computer training centre provides IT courses for young people in the area and access to internet facilities to keep abreast of what is happening globally.

Women Empowerment

Courses in local handicrafts, such as sewing, patchwork and mat-weaving, provides women with skills for cottage industries that can augment family income. In the process, the women gain higher self-esteem and confidence. The Foundation also runs a micro-credit programme that provides loans to poor families to set up small scale farming other or other income-generating enterprises.

Education/Skills Training

Education plays an important role in the spiritual, mental and physical development not just of the individual but the society and nation. The Sri Bodhiraja Foundation’s educational programmes which range from pre-school to vocational training aims to maximise the human potential and to create a sense of self-esteem. More importantly, emphasis is placed on the cultivation of strong morals based on the teachings of the Buddha.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Systematic pre-school education is critical in a child’s early age as it lays the foundation for future learning. The Foundation’s runs four pre-schools targeted at children aged between three and five. Working with a team of qualified teachers and supervisors, the pre-schools adopt an activity-based approach that strike a balance between learning and play, while guiding the child’s development intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The Bodhiraja International Pre-school that is situated opposite the temple is an English-medium institution. There are two grades- Pre-school One and Two for children aged 3 to 5. Children from this pre-school can be affiliated to the Bodhiraja International College.

The Bodhiraja Kindergarten at Hingura-Ara is situated next to the temple grounds. There are about 80 children and the main medium is Sinhala.

The Bodhiraja Pre-School Pushparama is situated at Telbaduara, about 15 minutes drive from the temple. The building is donated by friends from Japan. This is a remote area with many low-income families. There are about 20 children in the Pre-school.

Situated about 20 minutes drive from Embilipitiya in Hagala, the Bodhiraja Pre-school-Hagala is the largest of the 4 pre-schools with about 180 children. The brightly painted building is partially funded by NORAD. While the main language is Sinhala, children are given opportunities in  English immersion through songs and play. The pre-school also boasts a modern playground fabricated by the soldiers at the Engineering Unit of the Uda Walawe Camp.

Bodhiraja College

The Bodhiraja College, formerly known as Bodhiraja International College, was established in 2002 in response to the growing demand for English-medium education in the area  to meet the needs of the global economy. The school acquired the status of a governmetn-assisted private school since the beginning of 2010. While importance is placed on competency in English, much emphasis is placed on cultivating a strong Sinhalese Buddhist identity. The College stresses the wholesome development of a child, with equal attention being given to academic subjects, moral studies, sports and the arts. The syllabus is modelled on that set by the Ministry of Education.
