Bhikkhu Training

the INSPIRATION

"Carika bhikkave carakan

Bahujana hitaya, bahujana sukhaya."

"Go forth, o monks...

for the happiness and well-being of all."

The Sri Bodhiraja Bhikkhu Training Center provides residential training for about 60 monks ranging from ages 9 to 21. The monks study at the Pirivena that offers classes up to GCE A level and the curriculum includes subjects like Mathematics, Buddhist texts, and languages such as Pali, Sanskrit, English and Sinhalese. Besides academic pursuits, the monks at the Foundation are also orientated towards social work. Once every two months, a dhamma carika is organised during which the monks go out in groups to remote villages to conduct religious services, blessings and counseling for the people.

"The bhikkhu who, while young, devotes himself to the Buddha's teaching,
illumines the world like the moon freed from the clouds.”   Dhammapada
